#TRENDMEN - Outfit Of The Day

We continue our series of "winter wonderland" outfits.  This time we focus on the overcoat.  Largely considered the final frontier when it comes to keeping out the chill, the overcoat has largely been relegated to a functional role.  However, the correct coat at the correct length can finish an outift and complete a look.

Krishen prefers shorter coats, mostly finishing at his waistline
while Alan like his overcoats to be longer.

When you are vertically challenged (as we are)
overcoats should never be too long.  Afterall, you
don't want people to think you have either shrunk or
resorted to wearing your big brother's old coat.

#TRENDMEN - Outfit Of The Day

Winter has finally arrived and there is no better excuse to bring out the overcoats, jerseys and scarves than a good old-fashioned Johannesburg cold snap.  Winter is the time to play with heavier fabrics and our favourite cold-weather friend - layering.  However, it would take a lot more than winter to make us dispense with colour.

For today's look Alan reached for his trusty corduroys, while
Krishen sported his favourite Gucci sweater.

Krishen accessorised his look with an oversized bright scarf.
Alan covered up with his well-worn double-breasted overcoat.

Winter can certainly be a great time for
dressing.  Although layering is essential to
keep out the cold, it can also be fun!

#TREND MEN - Converse "Made By You"

Sneakers are one of those timeless items of clothing - they never go out of fashion. However, Alan has always battled to get his head around the idea of incorporating less-formal footwear into his more formal daily attire.  In the past, Krishen has tried to convince him otherwise but with little success.

Then the unexpected happened.  We were invited to attend an exclusive Converse "Made By You" dinner and, along with the invitation, two pairs of new All Star Chuck Taylors arrived on our doorstep.  We couldn't wait to try them out and, guess what? Alan has subsequently been seen wearing them on more than one occasion. It's what Krishen refers to as "a miracle breakthrough"!

The "Made By You" dinner was a mouthwatering occasion where
we got to catch up with our fashionable friends Kevin McLennan,
Irina Doman and Kelly Fung.

“Made By You is a global celebration highlighting Converse Chuck Taylor All Star, and those who wear them. Converse has curated a collection of Chuck Taylor All Star portraits, showcasing endless diversity and self-expression of individuals past and present who choose to wear Chuck Taylor All Star – from musicians to artists, skaters to fashionistas. While we dined in style, our very own "shoe portraits" were taken and later sent to us.

The idea behind the latest Converse campaign is to celebrate
fans of the Chuck Taylor All Star sneaker. Their sneakers are defined by
those who wear them. Their portraits offer a view into the worlds they
inhabit.

Getting into the swing of things.
A "shoefie" in a suitable urban setting with our very own "Made By You"
portraits.

Krishen has always preferred a more casual, urban look.
Clearly Alan is now a convert too!

#TREND MEN - The Art of The #Shoefie with Europa Art Shoes

A new trendy term has been seen doing the rounds recently: a selfie for your shoes is called a #shoefie... We paired up with Taryn Louch from Europa Art Shoes to have some fun with the concept of taking some awesome #shoefies - forget your pretty smile, it's all about the fabulous footwear when it comes to taking a super #shoefie...

Europa Art Shoes offers a wide range of high-quality footwear
for both men and women

What was that about forgetting our smiles?
We'll just need to adapt our #shoefie

Alan always gravitates toward the more formal footwear

He seemed to take a liking to this loafer with a twist: in funky
camouflage print. Time for a #shoefie!

Krishen brought some bling to his #shoefie with a touch of sparkle

These shoes seemed to call for a
gangster pose

Needless to say, we failed miserably
Oh, well - maybe just the standard #shoefie next time

Check out your nearest Europa Art Shoes branch and experiment with your very own #shoefie. www.europaartshoes.co.za

OUT & ABOUT - Tiger Of Sweden - Hyde Park - Johannesburg

When it comes to classic fashion, most people think Paris, Milan or New York.  However, just as the Swedes have built an impressive reputation in the fields of architecture and design, so have they infused modern elegance and classic design into their fashion.  We first encountered Tiger Of Sweden on a trip to Stockholm and we both became fans of the sophisticated, stylish label. So it was an honour for us to have a sit-down with Jonas Windahl and Madeleine Strom of Tiger Of Sweden, who were in Johannesburg for the launch of the new Hyde Park store.

The first thing we had to ask was where the name originated.  "Tiger" is not necessarily the first word that springs to mind when one thinks of Sweden.  The brand's heritage, explained Jonas, goes as far back as the early 1900's and the first suit produced by the label was named 'Tiger' - and the name stuck.  Jump forward about one hundred years and the company still continues to produce some of the finest, well-cut suits aiming to, in the words of Jonas and Madeleine, "bring the suit out of the bank and onto the streets" in an attempt to inject a sense of 'cool' into the concept of corporate attire.

Perfect ambassadors.
Jonas and Madeleine themselves embody the
sleek, well-tailored sophistication their brand inspires.

Jonas and Madeleine explained the philosophy behind Tiger Of Sweden's cool, corporate look.
In the mid 90's it was still considered daring to wear a blazer with
denims - the kind of hybrid look we take for granted nowadays - yet Tiger Of Sweden
was one of the forefathers of this trend.

And what of their latest collection - will there be any surprises?  Jonas and Madeleine assured us the newest collection will continue to incorporate the traditional colour palate of white, navy, black and grey.  "We are not a 'peacock' brand with too much colour", they explained, "but it is the fit that is the key factor for us."  Most clients become fans purely based on the cut of the clothing. "Once they try something on they are hooked."

With that in mind, we couldn't wait for the grand opening of the brand-spanking new Tiger Of Sweden store, bringing their total tally to four local SA stores.

And we weren't the only ones there to welcome Tiger of Sweden to
Hyde Park Corner.  Nik Roshania (above) along with
Kamini Pather, Alex Avgitidis and Melpo Theodorou (below)
helped celebrate with us.

Lee-Ann Liebenberg and Nicky Van Der Walt added their
own touch of understated elegance to the evening.

Danny K and Lisa Koppel showed exactly what Jonas and Madeleine
meant by re-inventing the way suits can be worn. There will be
no excuse for ill-fitting clothing any longer.

Always great bumping into our Marie Claire friends, the ever elegant
Aspasia Karras and Sharon Becker

Having fun with Wardah Hartley just before the fashion show
commenced

#TREND MEN - Homage To Louis Vuitton

We are both great fans of the Louis Vuitton label and were honoured to have been among the select few who were invited to the opening of the newly-expanded Louis Vuitton store in the brand-spanking new Diamond Walk in Sandton City.  The famous French label has a reputation as one of the finest producers of luggage for the elegant traveler. This was our inspiration to pay homage to the brand by embarking on our own "journey" - naturally accompanied by our own personal collection of LV luggage.

#TREND MEN - Edgars SS15

We recently attended the Edgars Spring/Summer 2015 launch at Shine Studios in Braamfontein. With winter rapidly approaching, it can sometimes be difficult to think about Summer attire but in the fashion game, we always need to stay one season ahead. And what wonderful attire we have to look forward to when the weather warms up again. Here are some of the main trends that were identified by the Edgars trend team...

Trendsetters unite: Seen here with Rowena Saloojee and Jerri Mokgofe

Pumped Up Kicks: the Edgars range of comfortable sneakers
has something for everyone - a definite must-have

Comfortable footwear incorporating a sporty aesthetic is a trend that seems set to remain for a few seasons to come. Read our trend report from earlier this year discussing this trend seen on streets everywhere: Trend Report: Practicality & Functionality

Monochromatic dottiness!

Continuing with the monochromatic trend, Edgars has incorporated another popular visual motif to complement this: polka dots. We loved this particular showcase as it was fun, fresh and instantly visually appealing. Pairing dots and stripes created a geometric visual frenzy.

All Denim: a fabric favourite that transcends seasons

Incorporating denim into more casual looks will remain a Spring/Summer trend. The all-denim head to toe look is especially popular.

A 70s throwback: tassels, suedes, neutral tones

The 70s fashion revival continues into Summer 2015. It evokes a more natural, handmade quality and has a relaxed, retro feel to it. We identified this as one of the major trends for 2015 earlier this year: Trend Report: 1970s Trending in 2015
